Facebook’s head of news partnerships, Campbell Brown, wrote that the Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship program will partner with four organizations focused on increasing newsroom diversity.

“The Facebook Journalism Project is committed to supporting the next generation of journalists,”

Brown wrote.

“That’s why we’re proud to announce that we’ve partnered with some of the leading journalism organizations in the country to establish The Facebook Journalism Project Scholarship program.”

The scholarship program will give $250,000 four organizations to award $50,000 in scholarships over the next five years. These organizations include:

  • the National Association of Hispanic Journalists
  • the Asian American Journalists Association
  • the Native American Journalists Association
  • the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association

Moreover, the program will also start by giving 100 individual awards to students. It will also award five $10,000 scholarship in the coming years to students pursuing degrees in digital media, journalism or communications.

Recently, Facebook has made a major change to News Feed to prioritize friends and family. The social media company also wants its users to have meaningful conversation with family and friends. In this way content from businesses, brands and media will be filtered and will be given last priority. However, this step shows that Facebook do care about the business as well.
